UNR Medical School Donor Appreciation

I got to work with the University of Nevada Medical School again this past week. I had the opportunity to tour the surgical lab and I got to check out one of their high-tech patients.

This guy is pretty cool, he bleeds, talks, vomits, and even dies… don’t worry though, he comes back to life.

Sanford Center for Aging Event

Last week I got to work with the wonderful staff of the Sanford Center for Aging at UNR. They invited Dr. Allen Power to give a talk on his book, Dementia Beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of CareAfterwards he signed a few copies and talked with guests.

UNR Medical School Alumni Event

So it’s been a while since I last posted anything. Not that I haven’t been busy behind the lens it’s just been finding shoots ya’ll would find interesting and that I would dub “blog worthy”. This shoot was for the UNR School of Medicine Alumni. First we had a sort of cocktail hour and I set up a light for some class reunion type portraits. The next day was a tailgate event for the UNR vs UNLV football game.

Saddle Up Partner

This past weekend I had the opportunity to work with a great client. You all have heard me talk about JP Pinocchio and his Ride for the Ta Tas and his Moms on the Run cancer benefits. I have been extremely fortunate enough to have covered both of those events for him for the last couple years. This year I got the opportunity to work on something else for him. The Reno Rodeo Four Person Scramble Golf Tournament is something the Reno Rodeo puts on to help the Foundation raise a little money. Now you are familiar with a golf scramble right? Easy enough, well golf isn’t easy. It’s frustrating, as if hitting a small white ball several hundred yards away wasn’t hard enough. As Robin Williams puts it, “knock a ball in a gopher hole that’s hundreds of yards away with rock and bushes in your way to a flat piece at the end with a flag to give you hope of finally reaching the end”.

Right so now you have the idea. How about doing this atop a horse’s saddle. That was JP Pinocchio’s idea. Now OK you’re thinking, “yeah that adds some challenge of course but it can’t be that hard”. Right, definitely not that bad, however, the fee included your green fees, the cart, lunch, and, oh yeah, your beverages. Many of these folks didn’t do all of this in the most sober of states. So the culmination of all this made for some seriously fun images. Two people ended up getting completely bucked off yet the longest drive ended up being something like 250 yards. On top of that he had a hole where at the tee box there was a toilet. Try teeing off on a toilet! I would love to show you those images however my second shooter, Tony Contini has yet to deliver images. They are coming soon and I’ll post them or direct you to his site for viewing.

For now I want you to enjoy these images and I want you to dust of your cowboy hat because the Reno Rodeo is rolling into town! See you there!

Ride for the Ta Tas Round Three

In my humble beginnings I was but a mere freshmen in college with a Canon Rebel xti and a dream. Well it was more like I was lost and needed something to study in college. I decided on photography because hey, that was cool at the time. Well during my time in the Photography Program at UNR one of my professors, Scott Hinton, came to me with a project. He needed someone to cover and event. The Ride for the Ta Tas.

This was three years ago. Hard to believe actually, I’ve come a long ways since. My first year shooting the event was right in downtown. They organized everyone in the courthouse parking lot and the ride took off from there. Last year they moved it to Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill which I think was a much more suitable location. The ride last year was a total success and this year was even better. I showed up around 7:30am after a night of metormix shooting and was ready to go. I got some pictures of people signing up. I got pictures of happy faces and I got pictures of doughnuts. I got picture of ballons, bikes, and a few of our mayor, Bob Cashell. I really enjoyed this year’s ride. Between the ride and Moms on the run you really start to feel a sense of community here in Reno. It’s cool.

The ride is also cool. They take off from the restaurant and head up to Virginia City to the Bucket of Blood Saloon before diving down into the Carson Valley and back Reno. Along the way riders pick up a poker hand try their luck back at the restaurant. Back at Pinocchio’s the riders are able to have a beer and sit down to a prime rib lunch. This year JP signed up a couple a girls to be show girls. My duty? To follow the girls around and take pictures of bikers posing with them. Not bad right? So the majority of my images were pretty much just grip and grins but I think I got a few cool images of other things that are worth checking out. The full gallery should be up any day now. I dropped off a CD with JP so when they are up I’ll let you all know and you can browse through them all. For now, look up the ride and maybe look at the photos from last year. Thanks for reading!
