UNR Medical School Donor Appreciation

I got to work with the University of Nevada Medical School again this past week. I had the opportunity to tour the surgical lab and I got to check out one of their high-tech patients.

This guy is pretty cool, he bleeds, talks, vomits, and even dies… don’t worry though, he comes back to life.

Sanford Center for Aging Event

Last week I got to work with the wonderful staff of the Sanford Center for Aging at UNR. They invited Dr. Allen Power to give a talk on his book, Dementia Beyond Drugs: Changing the Culture of CareAfterwards he signed a few copies and talked with guests.

Since November-Ish

So I know I missed the “Merry Christmas” and the “Happy New Years” posts. I have been caught up in enjoying those particular holidays and neglected my blog. So here it is, merry belated Christmas and happy week-ago New Year! Better? Here is a little of what I have been  up to.

I shot a couple of events at Bizarre Guitar including the bass guitarist from the Alice Cooper Band and the fellas from Queensryche and Great White12_13_2013 Queensryche & Great White Bizarre Guitar 026 12_13_2013 Queensryche & Great White Bizarre Guitar 040

I also shot a couple Christmas parties including one for Edward Jones Investments.

I also got to take a nice trip around the lake where I shot a couple rare, BrinR landscapes. If you want a print you can purchase them at this link, http://www.brinrphoto.com/0019.

Midtown Businesses for Reno Magazine

First I would like to say happy late 4th of July! My weekend was spent like many of yours. With friends, burgers, and a couple of beers. I did however manage to squeeze in a little photography as well. I did a Zephyr Beach gallery for Reno Metromix as well as a family portrait session for Wade and Krystle Carner. Here is a link to the Zephyr gallery and I’ll post the family portrait soon. This gallery is about something totally different.

Way back in April I worked with Reno Magazine on a project for Midtown. We covered ten businesses, well I covered ten businesses, the magazine actually covered something like 12 or 15 between Midtown and Wells Ave. Check out the photos and be sure to try each of these places they are all really cool. You can see the way they laid out the images at Reno Magazine’s website so please go at least see that and if you can pick up the print copy!

Tattoos, Dust, and… Crabs?

This past weekend was fun. A little hectic yes, but fun. I mostly worked quick, grip-and-grin photos but I think I got a few fun shots that are worth sharing. Last weekend I shot the first annual Ms. Silverstate Tattoo Pageant, The Sierra Nevada Community Sailing Crab Crack Fundraiser, and the In dust We Trust party at Bodega Nightclub.

Ms. Silverstate was rad. It was cool to see the “counter culture” get this kind of attention. I feel that Reno has a solid underground, tattoo, whatever-you-call-it culture and it was fun to be a part of it. Besides it being cool the girls were good looking and the ink was cool. Drinks were served and one dude was even escorted out of the event. The ladies strolled across the stage and the judges proceeded to ask questions while Chris Payne made “flattering” comments. In the end the first Ms Silverstate Tattoo was crowned and I had a solid gallery for Metromix.com.

This weekend’s shoots were for a different sort of counter culture. The Sierra Nevada Community Sailing organization had an annual crab crack dinner which I shot for Reno Magazine’s Society pages. This organization is the only sailing club of its kind in all of Nevada which is why I think it deserves the counter culture title. This was a pretty easy deal and I’m sure if I had put forth some extra dedication I could have made some very interesting pictures. However, I was on somewhat of a time crunch and quickly got in, got my photos, and got out. I did grab a couple claws before I left.

The last grip-and-grin event I shot this weekend was the In Dust We Trust event at Bodega Nightclub. I guess Burners are still part of the counter culture, even if Black Rock City becomes the third largest city in Nevada during Burning Man. Either way Burners, as they are known, can’t get enough of the playa so they have various events throughout the year to satiate their craving for dust. I’m usually lucky enough to be there with my camera and often get some fun photos.

If you haven’t heard of these cool events you should check them out. Some may be more your thing, some may knot… get it knot? Sorry. Anyway, thanks for reading and looking  through the photos!
